Ferrero is pleased to announce that it has been shortlisted as a finalist in this year’s Food and Drink Federation 2020 awards in the Environmental Leadership category.
The award acknowledges Ferrero as “Global leaders in sustainable palm oil,” recognising our work and progress in our palm oil sustainability credentials. Ferrero has used 100% sustainable RSPO-certified as segregated palm oil in all our products, including Nutella, since January 2015 and became one of the first global companies to achieve this.
We joined the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) in 2005, in which we committed not to buy palm oil from areas with recent deforestation. Furthermore, in 2013 we developed our own Palm Oil charter, which goes beyond sustainable certification and aims to tackle the main causes of deforestation and to create a balance between safeguarding the environment, community needs, benefits and economic feasibility. Ferrero has also been a member of the Palm Oil Innovation Group (POIG) since 2015.
Speaking of the announcement, Charlie Cayton, Director Communications & Corporate Affairs at Ferrero UK said: “At Ferrero, we are incredibly proud of the work we have achieved and continue to drive across our palm oil supply chain. To be listed as a finalist in this year’s Food and Drinks Federation Awards is a great honour, and reflects the great strides we have taken in our palm oil credentials, including using 100% sustainable RSPO-certified as segregated palm oil in all our products since January 2015, as well as the development of our own Palm Oil Charter. We very much look forward to attending the awards next year.”
The awards, which are held annually, see companies from across the food and drink supply chain enter and over 500 guests come together to celebrate the winners at the FDF Awards ceremony. Winners will be announced at the ceremony which is now taking place in February 2021.
