Ferrero launches Corporate Social Responsibility Report in the UK

For the Ferrero Group, the term corporate social responsibility has always stood for caring for people and for the local area, namely employees and former employees, consumers, families and the local communities in which it operates. These principles of social responsibility guided Ferrero's first steps in Alba and remain unchanged to this day.

The Ferrero Group’s approach to sustainability is currently based on the company’s social responsibility strategy: “Sharing values to create value”.

For Ferrero, the creation of shared value is a practice that affects all stages of the supply chain: it goes from caring for the people who have made and continue to make the history of the Group, the support of local communities, the promotion of active lifestyles among youths and their families, all the way to its strong commitment to sustainable farming practices and safeguarding and protecting the environment.

Ferrero in the UK & Ireland

As a global company, it is incredibly important to us that we have a positive impact on the communities in which we operate. That’s why we’re really pleased that, for the first time, we were able to dedicate a full chapter to the UK and Ireland in this year’s global CSR report.

Ferrero first came to the UK in 1966, and since then has launched numerous brands which have quickly become household favourites. We are proud to be one of the fastest growing confectionery businesses in the UK and our acquisition of Thorntons in August 2015 has made us the fourth largest confectioner in the UK. As we continue our UK growth, we believe it is our responsibility, more than ever, to give back to our local communities.

Two of the key initiatives covered in the UK chapter of the report are our flagship programme Kinder + Sport, and our commitment to sustainability.

Kinder + Sport is a global project, designed to encourage active and balanced lifestyles, particularly in children. Since we rolled out the UK and Ireland arm of this programme, we have helped over 100,000 children in England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland to get moving and delivered more than 190,000 hours of activity and nutrition courses to children all over the country. We focus on reaching children and helping them to develop the positive behaviours that will have a lasting impact on their future.

You can keep an eye out for lots more detail on Kinder + Sport on this blog - coming soon.

This year, we have also been focused on sustainability, in particular at our Greenford and Cork locations. At Greenford we now recycle all waste and use energy-efficient chillers, while our Cork location generates 75% of its electricity needs itself, and achieves ever increasing levels of sustainable energy use.

We’ll be sharing much more in the coming months about everything we are doing to help the environment, so watch this space!

CSR Report Launch

To celebrate all that has been achieved this year, we launched the CSR report at the Italian Embassy in London on 29th November, 2016. The immersive event showcased key aspects of Ferrero’s CSR approach through a series of interactive stations. Each station was used to bring to life different elements of the report, through games, videos, images and presentations. We were delighted to welcome many key political and industry stakeholders to the launch. As Ferrero’s keynote speaker said on the night, “We make an occasion of our CSR report because it truly is at the heart of our business”, which sums up just how far we live and breathe our CSR commitments.

We hope that you too are inspired to share our passion for our products - and our values.
