About hazelnuts

Hazelnuts come from hazel trees, which grow in Mediterranean climates. While Turkey is the world’s largest producer of hazelnuts, our expertise and tradition with this fruit goes back to our roots in Italy, as supply can also be found in the Langhe region in Piedmont, Italy - where Ferrero was founded.

The hazelnut has a smooth, brown shell that encloses the edible kernel. While we prefer our hazelnuts to be mixed with chocolate, the kernel itself can be eaten raw, roasted, ground into a paste or in the form of hazelnut oil.

Quality is at the heart of everything we do and as hazelnuts are a key ingredient for many of our products, we are committed to a sustainable supply chain.

Through our dedicated in-house Ferrero Farming Values Program we empower farmers by equipping them with the knowledge of good agricultural and social practices.

Sharing our values to achieve high quality products

The Ferrero Hazelnut Company is a division of Ferrero which brings together all the hazelnut value chain activities, from farming to the consumer, under one structure.

Across our supply chain, we work with a vision of “Sharing Values to Create Value” and we establish relationships based on dialog and transparency with the producers and suppliers of our raw materials.

We believe that value is created not just from a commitment to a set of core values within Ferrero, but through taking the responsibility to share those values with all stakeholders inside and outside of the organisation.

At Ferrero, we take ethical practices within the hazelnut supply chain very seriously. For this reason, we also have a Code of Business Conduct and we require our suppliers and trade partners to respect our values.

Ferrero fosters a sustainable relationship with all relevant players in the hazelnut value-chain, including growers, seasonal workers, aggregators, traders and village leads.

In Turkey, for example, we have partnered with several trusted third parties including the International Labour Organisation, GIZ and UTZ, and through our work with them we help to ensure that people in our supply chains work in safe conditions.

We believe that through investing in a sustainable supply chain and sharing our values with all those we work with, we can ensure our products deliver on the high quality that we always strive to meet.
